ArmsUp Motorsports Dominates Final SCCA Road America Round

Posted on September 18, 2008

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. - ArmsUp Motorsports dominated the SCCA Kettle Moraine Double Regional event last weekend at Road America. A constant rain turned the six car ArmsUp fleet into a flotilla with the first day and a half of racing held under wet conditions. The difficult conditions did not slow the Greist Family with Revere taking two poles along with an overall race win and John Greist taking the race two Formula Continental win to complete the sweep. Jose Paredes also picked up the overall victory in race two capping an ArmsUp Sweep of the weekend.

With rain being the main theme of Saturday's racing Revere Greist stamped his authority on the weekend early by scoring not only the FC pole, but taking the overall pole for the race group out-qualifying Formula Atlantic cars. It would be an ArmsUp front of the field as the team swept the top four spots in FC with John Greist, Jim Victor and John Dickmann rounding out the top four. Walter Vollrath turned his first laps since early August to place 11th on the Grid.

The race would be all Revere all the time as the driver of the number-58 Healthcare Technology Systems car would run untouched to claim the overall victory by 33-seconds. To prove that qualifying was no fluke, ArmsUp drivers Jim Victor and John Dickmann would flank the younger Greist on the podium running second and third respectively. Vollrath would improve from qualifying to place ninth with John Greist coming home a disappointing 10th after qualifying so well.

Sunday arrived looking like a carbon copy of Saturday with Revere Greist earning his third buckeye of the weekend with the overall pole on a wet track. John Greist would continue his strong form with third on the grid followed by Victor in sixth, Dickmann seventh, and Vollrath 14th. Jose Paredes, who sat out Saturday's events, qualified second in Formula Atlantic.

For race two the rain finally let up and a dry Road America presented itself for the ArmsUp Team as it went to the grid. Revere picked up where he left off in race one and led the field for the balk of the race. The man on the tear however was Jose Paredes. After a midfield starting position overall, Paredes stormed through the field after early contact to claim the Formula Atlantic and overall group win in the 24 car field.

Late in the FC race Revere Greist began to lose power when an alternator bolt came loose on his Van Diemen. Holding on as long as possible the younger Greist limped the car across the line in third. Picking up where is son left off John Greist took over the top spot and held it to the finish claiming his first win behind the wheel of a Formula Continental car in the process. Victor would complete a solid weekend with a second place finish ahead of Greist, fifth place John Dickmann and eighth place Vollrath.

"This was a great way to finish our SCCA season at RA," team owner Gregg Borland said after the weekend. "Each driver did a great job of dealing with the difficult rain conditions. Congrats to Revere, John and Jose on their wins, it was a fantastic weekend for us."
