ArmsUp Motorsports and Trent Hindman make USF2000 Debut at the Cooper Tires Winter Fest

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. – ArmsUp Motorsports and Trent Hindman made their “Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda” debut at the Cooper Tires Winterfest. The two event five race winter series saw Hindman score three podium finishes en route to fifth in the Series Championship.

The first event in the Cooper Tires Winterfest was held at the famed Sebring International Raceway. The two day event featured two qualifying sessions and two races. In his first USF2000 event Hindman lined up on the grid third after the first qualifying session. At the start Hindman lost one spot dropping to fourth. Just past the halfway point the ArmsUp Motorsports driver developed a puncture in the right-rear tire of his Van Diemen and had to pit for a new tire. Not giving in and taking advantage of mid race attrition Hindman was able to score a second place result as the checker fell on the 13-lap race.

Race two at Sebring held a lot of potential for the ArmsUp team but it was not to be. Hindman was setting a blistering pace in the qualifying session, holding on to the pole well past the halfway mark. Unfortunately the Premier Woodcraft backed driver made and uncharacteristic mistake that resulted in contact with the turn-ten barriers. The lap time still put Hindman second on the grid but the team was unable to repair the damage to the car in the short turnaround time between qualifying and the race.

The ArmsUp Motorsports Team then moved onto the Homestead International Raceway one week later for the final event of the Cooper Tires Winterfest. Hindman and his ArmsUp team were looking to build on the momentum from their opening weekend. In race one the 15-year-old New Jersey driver would start from the fourth position. During a race long battle he was able to move up into the third place challenging hard for second as the checkered fell. Race two would be the high mark for Hindman’s Winterfest campaign. After starting third the ArmsUp driver dropped back to fourth at the start. Running a very smart race Hindman moved to third just past halfway and battled his way into the second spot with one lap to go setting the fastest race lap in the process. Race three would prove to be a disappointment for Hindman and the ArmsUp team. While battling for second place Hindman was crashed out by the third place runner ending both drivers’ races on lap three.

“This was a really good series for us,” stated ArmsUp Motorsports owner Gregg Borland. “I cannot say enough about how impressed I have been with Trent. He is one of the most mature drivers we have ever had in one of our cars. No matter what was thrown at him over the two weekends he stayed calm and made the most of each situation. Everyone at ArmsUp is really looking forward to working with him more this season.”

“This was the first time we ran together in a race situation and it went well,” commented Trent Hindman after the Cooper Tires Winterfest. “Working with Gregg, Brent and Wes was awesome. Kent (Boyer), our engineer was really good to work with. As we were making changes he was able to explain how the car was supposed to react and it did just what he said. I’m looking forward to working with the ArmsUp team more this year.”

After a successful series debut in the USF2000 National Championship Cooper Tires Winterfest ArmsUp Motorsports is working hard at putting together a full season campaign for the National Championship.
